TOPSPIN

Topspin is a key element of any effective groundstroke, as it allows you to hit the ball higher over the net, reducing the chances of hitting it into the net. Additionally, it helps players develop a better feel for the ball with practice.

Notice on the picture how Novak drops his wrist after his take-back and after he begins his forward swing—this technique is crucial for generating topspin.

The tip of his racket is also pointing towards the ground allowing for his racket head to start as far below the ball as he possibly can, giving him a much lower starting point and giving him the maximum amount of leverage and momentum so he can drive up the back of the ball as much as he can. Try this technique next time you're practising.
